The main reason I make dupes is to be able to send tapes offsite, but
still have most data available for on-demand restores. It depends on the
policies you have set up for your end-users asking for restores. 
Currently, we are not duping full backups, but are duping weekly
cumulatives and daily incrementals, then the dupe is sent off-site. all
originals for full backups are  sent off-site. 95% of the time, if we
have a restore request come in, we can restore the files the same day,
within 1 or 2 hours; if the data is needed from a full backup, the turn
around time is 1 to 2 days. 
For us, it's a service level committment, not a necessity otherwise. 
Environment is 
Solaris 8 Netbackup master
20 netware servers, 
approx 40 NT/2000 servers. 
~500 to 600 users.
We get anywhere from 1 to 4 restore requests per day.

Hi Folks !
I would like to hear about the duplication policies you have
configured. I 
am setting up a Netbackup system in a mid-range environment(3.5TB full

backup). What I have found is that the duplication process is really a

overhead. I would rather eject my original tapes and send em offsite. I

really need to know whether it is feasible to duplicate. I am not sure
how 
huge enterprise does the duplication(where in they often run out of
resource 
for backup at first place).
