I have an Overland Data library with a DLT8000 drive in it. Through its control
panel, it allows me to 'downgrade' the tape format to a lesser value [ie.
DLT7000 format], but if I do this it lasts only one session. I've contacted
Overland about this and spoke to a technical representative about this, as I
wanted to know if the DLT7000 format could be forced for longer than one
session. He said simply no, and hung up. I have two other libraries, both of
which have DLT7000 drives. I'd like to force the 8000 drive to be in a
semi-permanent DLT7000 state so that all 3 libraries could share the same NBU
pool. By semi-permament, it would be great if I could use the control panel to
switch between the 7000 & 8000 formats for more than just a single session.
I've emailed the technical support staff about this over 2 weeks ago and have
heard nothing. I've tried another email to their sales department today. I'm
just wondering if anyone else in this mailing list has faced a similar
environment, as I'd like to hear your feedback as to what else I could do. I
would think that a firmware program could be created by Overland to do what I'd
like to do; does that sound reasonable to any of you? Are there third party
vendors that may offer this type of service?
