Hi Larry,
I have tried to another network interface for the Backup and I didn't get
the "linger" message, but I did get a message about another file shrinking.
This file that shrunk hasn't been touched since April 30th !! This file is
around 7MB.

Not that it helps much, but man 7 socket explains linger.

Usually it happens when the file size changes between the beginning
and end of the backup of that directory.
I saw a tech note which mentioned compression, and interestingly the
example referred to Lotus Notes.
Is this file over 2GB?
