Hello again,
I sent out the message below this morning but have since found out
that the tech at the remote site is either dim or just plain lying. I was
able to catch a glimpse of the tape while it was showing in the Device
Manager gui, and it was plainly displayed as NOT write enabled. I verified
by successfully relabeling another tape.

Sorry to have wasted your time, those of you who did get back to me with
suggestions. (Yes, some of you did suggest it might be
write-protected....thanks!)

Regards,
Joe

Hello, I sent this problem out before but didn't get a resolution to it.
Eventually had to remove the tapes that gave the error. Other tapes
installed into the unit could be relabelled. Tech at remote site swears the
problem tapes were not write protected.

Here's the original problem message:

Hi,

I'm having a problem writing a label to a tape. I've done this often,
successfully, but one I'm trying to relabel now is failing.

command:
bplabel -ev wf0010 -d 8mm -o -p Full-Weekly

response:
bplabel: cannot open /tmp/wf0010, Permission denied.

I'm running the command as root. Any ideas?
Thanks, and have a great weekend!

Regards,
Joe
