Oh yes, during the catalog backup there will be open files, if duplication
is running at the same time. However, if you truly have a disaster and you
need to recover, will it be sufficient? Yes, more than likely...but I
wouldn't want to bet the farm on it especially if one of the tapes you need
to restore from was being duplicated during your catalog backup.

Okay so my final answer is YES, there will be problems.

Some of my clients use a product called autosys which allows you to build
dependencies...that seems to work quite well in cases like this.

Other use a script I wrote to backup their catalog, some of the logic for
doing it can be found in the globalthruput.sh script on my website. I use
bpdbjobs to make sure no jobs are active or queued...you however would want
to include a query of the process table for bpduplicate. So in the beginning
of that logic I bprdreq -terminate the request daemon so no other jobs will
be submitted. Then when all have completed, I begin the catalog backup. At
the end of that process an initbprd will restart the request daemon again.

Admins,
Our catalog backup is configured to run with session_notify. But
session_notify does not wait until the duplication finishes. Basically
Catalog backup as well as duplications run together sometimes(may be most of
the times). Is this a cause of concern with respect to recovery ?(recovery
of catalog in case of a disaster) I can modify this behavior by running a
script to backup the catalog DB, but I don't have a big window to
accommadate this process.

Any ideas ?

Thank You

Dayal
