Good point, the upgrade path would be 3.2 to 3.4 to 4.5, so you'll
need the 3.4 media regardless.

The differences between 3.2 and 3.4 can be found in the release notes:

P.S.  I think Solaris 8 was added to 3.2 in a patch.
