We have two HP 20/700 libraries with 10 LTO drives in each library and we
have been having "pain" too as described by Patrick Wilhelm (see "Message:
3" below) for the past 8 - 10 months. We escalated this issue with HP and
finally we have been going pretty good for the past two weeks. I'm hoping
this final escalation and problem resolution solves our issues. We have had
multiple issues, most with firmware in either the FC/SCSI bridges or in the
library. We are now occasionally getting I/O errors but nothing as compared
to previously. I have noticed, but not confirmed, that the I/O error
happens when the tape is move backwards (or it appears to move backwards
when looking at the syslog.log file on the media server). In addition, I
don't believe we are getting the performance out of the drives as we should
be. Perhaps there are some settings somewhere, that we should look at?
Anyone have any thoughts on this? If anyone has any additional questions or
suggestions, please feel free to contact me.

TIA,

David
