If you are on 106 level for your DLT tape drives you also 
need 34_2 patch. I had a couple of drives downed 
in a week. If you got downed tape drive every night 
you got bad HBA or your bridges choking, i.e SAN connectivity 
problem. It's usually something else failing in this case,
backups, a lot of frozen media. 
Some people found bad cables, it happened to me also.

If you are not using DLT/SAN open a call with Veritas and STK 
and let them fix your problem.
