        Hi all,

Just to help (in case of) :

Full : a cartridge is full when it reach the media capacity (it depend on
the kind of data (db or jgp).

Frozen : When there is an I/O error (write or read), the cartridge become
FROZEN, then no more data will be write on this tape until a manual action
for "unfreeze" it.
This tape have allways the capability to restore data which is written
before the error until de retention date.
Be carefull when you "unfreeze" a tape, if this is a "hard error" (tape HS),
you probably have another error later which is more complicated such as
backup totally HS on this cartridge.

Tim:

Check bperror -media -d BEGIN_RANGE -e END_RANGE -U

for clues as to why they were frozen before you unfreeze them.

If it's FULL, then the tape has data which is not expired.

If it's FROZEN, it will never be used again until you manually
unfreeze it:

# bpmedia -unfreeze -m <media_id>

If you're not running that from the media server who froze it (see
bpmedialist -summary ), add a -h <hostname>

If it's FROZEN, and available_media shows some Kbytes, or it's listed
as FULL/FROZEN, then it has data which is not expired.

What should you do with an expired and FROZEN tape? That's up to
you. It may have been frozen due to multiple or really bad errors, or
it may contain data in a non-NBU format that NBU recognizes and wants
to protect for you.
