Time consuming is the truth! :)

Had to do a bunch once to find a very important file (they approved the OT).
For 35/70 DLT tapes you are looking at 8 hours per tape so 3 a day.

Just out of curiosity has anyone imported from other media? DLT 40/80, SDLT,
LTO, 8mm? I am interested in seeing if any one is faster per gigabyte.

If you have no catalog backup at all, and you lose your entire Master, the
only way (realistically) to get the catalog back is to use the IMPORT option
on the NetBackup GUI to import each and every one of your tapes. 

It is time consuming to say the least, but it will rebuild your catalog for
you.
