Unless you're using SSO, in which case I don't know of any way to do this.

For example, 12 media servers using SSO to share a library with 10 drives.
Each media server would have to have at least 1 drive for it's STU and many
media servers may require more than one (i.e. a dedicated media server may
have 3 or 4 drives for it's STU). In this example it would be very easy for
all the drives to be used, leaving none for restores.

I think you can find this answered a few times in the archives...but here you
go.

Let's say you have a total of 10 drives available for your backup server.
When you create your storage units, make sure the total number of drives
configured in all the storage units totals to 9 drives. This will prevent
NetBackup from using that 10th drive for backups because it's not in a storage
unit. Since NetBackup doesn't use storage units when it's performing a
restore, that 10th drive WILL be used for restores. This has been around
since at least version 3.2

Hi all,

is it possible in some way to tell NBU 3.4.1 to keep a drive always
available for restores? Or is there a workaround or any other way to do
this?
I would not like to have a drive down all the time if possible.
Will a special feature be implemented in 4.5?

Thanks for your help.
