We are running Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 with a StorageTek 9740 with
DLT7000 drives. We have NetBackup 3.4 Datacenter at the 3.4.1-1 patch
level. We upgrade our tape drive firmware to 106 yesterday and had no
problems with last nights backup. In fact, it appears that our average
throughput increased from an average of between 242 to 297 MB/sec to an
average of 361 MB/sec. What kind of tapes are you using? I used to see
a lot of status 83 errors when we tried to use DLT IIIxt tapes instead
of DLT IV tapes. It also caused the need cleaning status lights on the
drives to come on.

We are running Netbackup 3.4 Datacenter on a Windows 2000 server

We have StorageTek L700 with DLT7000 tape drives.

For some time we were running at firmware version 95 on the tape drives.
We had issues with the drives raising invalid cleaning messages.

We then upgraded to firmware version 106 on the tape drives. This fixed
our invaled cleaning flags but caused backup performance to drop
significantly.

So we backed out our firmware change from 106 to 95.

We are now getting and abnormally high number of Media errors (status
83).

Can anyone offer a step by step way to determine the cause of status 83
errors?

Question #2: Is anyone running with Windows 2000 Server service pack 2?
