Well, there is a feature in 3.4 called move detection, its only under TIR.
what it does is if a file has been moved or renamed, it is backed up again
so that during a TIR it is restored properly. Before this feature, many of
these types of files were missed because the mtime was not touched. So you
will indeed get all of the files recovered as you wish.

Gerd, I think it will take some hard testing, but I'm confident Netbackup
will prove itself superior in the end. I have been consulting/using
NetBackup since version 1.6 and to date, I have not found a product that
exceeds what NBU is able to offer.

Good luck during your acceptance testing.

David

David,

if you think so, please tell me how you will restore a "true" image of -let
me say- a directory with many subdirectories, where some subdirectories and
files have been moved and renamed and other files or directories have been
deleted?

As an administrator I dont know about all these manipulations, and my users,
who want their files restored, are generally not able to trace back all
these operations, so how will you restore a true point in time image?

You know that newly installed files (modification date older then the backup
date) are not backed up at all. How will you restore files which were not
backed up?
