Theres no software that I know of today that is
capable of multi-pathing/load balancing a dual ported
tape drive (i.e 9840FC).

If you want clustering down to the tape drive today, this may
work..

[server A - passive] [server B - active]
                 |    |
           [switch]  [switch]
              \ \      / /
               \ 9840FC /
                 9840FC

Hmm, losing the second path ... so if the switch where I'll get my
first path blows away I have no chance to get NB back running without
changing the switch ...

Maybe I'm too influenced designing clusters with storage arrays ...
