We use Veritas NetBackup 3.2 as our backup solution on a Solaris2.6 machine.
When we do full backups over the weekends, the backup jobs are multiplexed onto
the AIT tapes located in a SpectraLogic Treefrog Media Library. The tape drive
unit in this library is an AIT-2 drive.
The tape library houses 15 tapes in total. The tapes that were loaded for WKE
were:
Slot1: WKE016 AIT2 trouble importing
Slot2: WKE017 AIT2 trouble importing
Slot3: WKE018 AIT2 trouble importing
Slot4: WKE019 AIT2 trouble importing
Slot5: WKE020 AIT2 trouble importing
Slot6: WKE006 AIT1 imported okay
Slot7: WKE007 AIT1 imported okay
Slot8: WKE008 AIT1 imported okay
Slot9: WKE009 AIT1 imported okay
Slot10: WKE010 AIT1 imported okay
Slot11: WKE011 AIT1 imported okay
Slot12: WKE012 AIT1 imported okay
Slot13: WKE013 AIT1 imported okay
Slot14: WKE014 AIT1 imported okay
Slot15: WKE015 AIT1 imported okay
We retrieved the tapes from our offsite location. Since the tapes had expired,
we had to import them back into the database. To be able to restore the
server, we have to import all 15 tapes back into the database. During the
1st step (PHASE1) of the import, we were able to import all the AIT1 but it
gave us MEDIA READ ERRORS and MEDIA POSITION ERRORS while reading AIT2.
The restore that we want however seems to have some fragments on these AIT2
tapes. Fragments 4 to 9 are on the AIT1 tapes which we can read but fragments
1 to 3 must be on one of those AIT2 tapes. Note that the backups were
multiplexed and compressed.
Is there a way to force a bpimport of the fragments that it can read. I'm
hoping that the slice that failed would be contained within fragments 4to9. Or
is all the fragments absolutely necessary to perform the recovery.
Also, does anyone have any ideas why we would not be able to do an import of
the images off an AIT2 tape. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mitch
