Eeek!

Well, let's see. This is a media server database so the -movedb will not
have any impact on that. 3.4 has a checksum in the header of the database
now, so I don't know if simply moving it will suffice, but it might. I have
done this with pre-3.4 NBU servers but not 3.4 as of yet.

Before doing anything, naturally I would suggest a backup.

Then with the device mgr daemons running, I would move ALL TAPES to
NON-ROBOTIC (Standalone). This just seems to keep everything happy.

Stop all daemons on all servers.

Move a copy of the database to the master server, rename the old database on
the media server.

Using tpconfig, reconfigure the VOLHOST to reflect the Master Server as your
new VOLHOST on all Media Servers (including your Master if it also acts as a
Media Server).

Start your daemons

Perform robot inventory, allowing NBU to update the residence of the media.
And run some tests using tpreq requesting tape mounts.

Then do some restores, the test some backups.

You should be complete!

David

We currently have 2 media servers and one master server in our netbackup
configuration. The volume database host is one of the media servers. This
media server will some be de-commissioned so we want to move the volume
database host to the master server. Can this be done with the bpmedia
-movedb command for each individual tape or is there an easier/quicker way
to achieve this.
Thanks
Peter Jones
