Unless you are planning to share the library with another backup solution,
you will be able to use NetBackup directly with the 3494 library.

Yes, it can definitely be done.
I have a client that is doing the same thing...like
some STK libraries, you may have to use IBMs Library
Manager as the interface though.
I'll be doing this work in about two months (roughly
speaking)...
