I'm under the impression that these scripts don't work properly when i use 
multiplexing and multi streaming.

What if the backup fails?  Will you attempt to restart 
the backup or up the DBs and notify someone_who_cares 
that it failed?

If that's what you want to do, the a bpstart_notify and 
bpend_notify script is what you want.

PS. I used those for backing up ClearCase databases
