I have not done it with Veritas but if you use NDMP V3 on the filer and on
the SUN host you can do this. I have a F8xx filer and a Sun e450R which runs
NDMP and is connected to a ADIC S1000 and I am able to do NDMP backups to
the Scalar using the Sun Box as a proxy.

My experience with the Netapp filer leads me to say that no, you can't do
this.  If you're using NDMP, you have to use direct attached drives/library.
NFS would be the way to go if not able to use NDMP.  Of course, I could be
wrong, but our Veritas reps have indicated that if we don't want to use
NDMP, the only way to get backups in is via NFS or CIFS.
