For testing an Ultra 5 will work like a champ. It will be slow. Real slow.
Especially if you use any of the java interfaces. It will perform backups
just fine, however. Don't bet your production network on it....

Does anyone have any advice on the minimum specifcation for a Unix master
server.

We hope to install a master server on a Sun platform for software release
testing. We have a DLT4700 tape stacker and
a variety of Sun equipment to choose from. We would like to use an Ultra 5
with 64Mb RAM and a 9Gb disk. Is this
going to be beefy enough?
