We do not multiplex backups in our environment. Backups
for specific subnets queue up waiting for the same tape drive
and systems back up one at a time.

Hello

Are you sure that both jobs were contending for the same tape or perhaps
they
had just been multiplexing and joined streams. It's been my impression
that
most of the hangups are if a catalog backup is in progress and can't get to
it's
tapes or hangs for some other reasons since all backups stop till the
catalog
backup is completed.

We upgraded to Solaris 7 last week with NetBackup 3.2, and we
had a lock-up situation last weekend. Two jobs were trying
to use a tape for backups. One job loaded tape SJ0698 into
Drive 3. The other job had filled a tape a wanted tape SJ0698
to continue a backup. The backup jobs share the same pool
of tapes. These two backup schedules failed all weekend, but
two other backup schedules ran fine. We power-cycled our
STK 9714 and restarted the NBU processes before restarting the
failed backups. Backups ran fine the rest of this week.

Netbackup 3.2 on Solaris 7.

Last night we had an issue with the sysytem that performs the backups and
the kernel froze in the middle of the backup. After fixing some problems
that caused this, we brought the machine back up again. Everything seemed
well. Looking at the NetBackup job minitor though, I discovered the system
apparently froze in the middle of the backups.

The job monitor shows a number of 'Active' jobs that are no longer
active. Attempts to 'kill' the jobs from both the GUI and the command line
have failed.

How can I clear these 'active' jobs and knock them into a 'failed' state?

Jason
