Dennis,

Personally my oppinion on a STATUS-54 for an NT client
means that you may to need to restart the BPCD services on 
that client.  This is an NT service type of thing that gets
set up when you install NB on that client.  Sorry for the
bad lingo, I'm a NB UNIX guy but I do have NT clients.
Try stopping and restarting the BPCD service on the NT client
then rerun the backup.  NB server is talking to your client
but your client is not listening or responding.  Hope this helps.
