What the EMC Time finder Extension buys you is error reporting and API
tie-ins.

It gives you a more granular look as to where issues were if there is an
error, and manages backing out a BCV split if something goes wrong.  There
are a lot of dominos that need to fall for a backup of a BCV to be done
properly.  Also a packaged product does give you support for this
configuration, and covers you in the case the person that wrote the scripts
moves on and something needs to change.

I am using the BCV Timefinder method with Netbackup but DO NOT
have the EMC plugin piece for Netbackup.  You can write scripts
(which we have) that sync up the third mirror then split the  mirror
and remount it as a different filesystem on even a different host
and then back it up.
