I did a comparitive analysis for one of my clients of 
both products about 18 months ago.  Clearly for 
scaleability and management, Netbackup wins hands 
down.  At the time IBM's recommendation was that if you 
need to expand, you added another server, each of 
course being independent of one another.  IBM did tell 
me that they were making ADSM "more like netbackup" in 
future releases (I don't think they have done that 
yet).  I think another glaring limitation of ADSM is 
the 40GB DB size due to the time it would take for your 
expiration and reclamation processes (both of which 
would need to finish before any backups could run).  If 
you would like a matrix that is about a year old, I'll 
email that to you.  There are many other issues, that I 
could go in to, but perhaps we should take that off 
line.
