We had a similar problem and it was the TCP/IP stack on the WinNT side.
Service Pack 3 and later fixed it. What are you running?

You may also want to increase the client read timeout 
and the client connect timeout to see if this takes 
care of it (in the Media Server bp.conf file).  Try 
7500 for both
