NetBackup Supports NetApp Native dump backup using NDMP. We've been doing
this for almost 2 years now. There are issues I agree, but if we stay with
supported and tested platforms it works just fine.
An imbedded NBU module is unlikely since NetApp is such a thin client.
However NDMP is being improved day by day to make restores easier
As for HSM, that is up to NetApp to design, either by putting a HSM module
into the OS or making a DMAPI compliant File System.
Hope this helps,
Bob

Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] HSM and NetApp?
I've been trying to find an answer to this for some time. Ideally I've
wanted
NetApp to include several things in Data OnTap.
1. a native veritas netbackup client. Sure would make it a lot easier to
back
them up if they supported it somehow.
2. HSM support. Even if I have to stick an optical or tape robot behind a
group of filers, and they do the HSM in their own format, it would be better
than having to move any filesystems I might want to archive onto a platform
that can support HSM. Not sure if this is going to happen, though the more
of
us that bug them, the better.
All in all, I wouldn't count on it though. Looks like we can't even get NDMP
to work all the time between revisions when dealing with NetBackup.
