I've tried this. Unfortunately when you down the alternate path you down
the primary as well. The down takes the physical drive offline, not just
the logical device as seen by NetBackup.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] dual path redundancy to tape drives

Hi,

Is there a way to to have two alternate paths to a tape drive from a
single host (using fibre channel) set up in NBU so that if one path to the
tape drive fails, the other will take over? The only way I can think to do
this is to set up each instance of the tape drive on the host as a seperate
drive in NBU, then mark the drive on the redundant path as down. Then, when
a failure occurs, manually go in and mark the alternate drive as up. Would
this work? Is there a way to automate this fail over? I'm assuming the
drive sharing option in 3.2 only works across hosts rather than one host
with two paths to the same drive, correct?

Any help is appreciated,
-mike andres
