Hi everyone,
while i am still not able to get the original system working, i was finally
able to recover my data.
I set up a trial version of Networker 8 on a completely unrelated server. I
figure that a virtual machine might be enogh to do this. This was installed
with default options. There is NO direct connection to the library from this
new server.
The following is, step by step, what i did afterwards.
1. I set up the new filer as NDMP Storage Node,
2. started a scan for devices on the new Storage Node.
3. followed by a library configuration of the newly discovered library.
4. i did a reset of the library, and then the two tapes present where shown
5. i ran an iventory of those two tapes. The tape Label was identified
successfully
6. i did a "Load without mount" on the first tape. (i tried just mounting it,
but it was automatically ejected)
7. i ran scanner -i <name of drive with tape in it>. I copied the name from the
GUI and hat to enclose it in " because of a space in the device name
8. i mounted the other tape as requested by the scanner command
9. afterwards i was able to find the saveset, but it was shown as "recoverable"
10. i used the command nsrmm -S <ssid> -w "+10 years" -e "+10 years". I don't
know if it was really neccessary though
11. i used the following command to get the client id: mminfo -V -N <saveset
name> -r clientid
12. i created a dummy client using an existing (but unrelated) host in my
network, using the client id from step 11.
13. in the dummy client configuration, i added the ndmp credentials (i do not
know if this was neccessary)
14. in the dummy client configuration, under Remote Access, i added *@*, under
Storage Nodes i added the new Filer
15. in the client configuration of the new filer i did the same
Afterwards, i ran nsrndmp_recover -s <new servername> -c <name of dummy client>
-S <SSID> -m <new filer>::<Path on new filer> <Path from SaveSet>
It started to run without error, but it did not automatically mount the tape.
After i manually mounted the tape from the Networker GUI, it started to run
normally. After 3 or 4 hours, the next tape was requested (and again not
automatically mounted), and after again 3 or 4 hour, the recovery has completed
successfully!
I assume that it took so long, and had to check every tape, because scanner is
not able to build the file index of a NDMP save set? Also, the most likely
reason for Networker not automatically mounting the tapes ist that there is no
connection from the server to the library, correct?
Anyway, Thank you all again for yur tremendous help!

That could be the problem. If the IP of the server changed the licences may
have been disabled. Is that the case?
I don't see why nw is complaining about server devices when it shouldn't Ned
them for a pure NDMP recovery.
Can you show the ssflags and explain any other changes you may have committed
from your description?
