Tim,

we actually also used our DDs with 2 separate 10GB NICs to the storage nodes.
However, we found that sooner or later this might obviously cause problems and 
we switched to the solely 10GB network about a year ago.
We have had no problems so far.

If one uses the NW's server network interface option, only the backup data will 
use this path. The 'administrative' tasks will still use the datndard interface.
