This confusues not only you. To resolve that, there must at least one
other criteria exist which is not visible at all. That's why admins
usually do not create notifications on their own. They just modify the
action.

Who else is confused? ;-)

Well, anyone else that would look at your environment. It's a pitfall
that's going to catch any NetWorker admin, unless you document why
there are notifications that overlap.

What can we do about it?

Notifications can be configured and altered through NetWorker
Administrator (which is launched via NetWorker Management Console/NMC) or
via the nsradmin tool. Once you've read up on notifications, perhaps
you'll have an understanding of why a previous admin would have set things
up the way he or she did. You'll also be able to decide whether you
*should* make changes or not.

Where are notifications explained in detail?

The canonical source of information would be the NetWorker Administrator's
Guide for the version of NetWorker you're using. It's a massive PDF
available through powerlink.emc.com or support.emc.com.

If you haven't read it yet, you should. There are separate
topic-specific guides (disaster recovery (which you should read before
you have a disaster), performance tuning & optimization, tape device
management, etc.), but start with the administration guide.
