It depends on which version of the NMC. We have successfully run the NMC that
came on v7.6.4.4 and v8.0.1 on a Mac. In fact, I no longer run the NMC in my
Windows VM. My workstation is a Mac and I run it there natively.

I am a long-time Mac user.
I am pretty sure Java 7 breaks NMC on a Mac. I tried it. No go.
Fortunately, we have a Citrix Zenapp server here, so I just run NMC off there
and I let someone else worry about Java versions.
