You could probably even use a DDBoost device but it does not make sense.

1. DDBoost is a mechanism to dedupe on the SN. However, with Avamar, you 
already dedupe at the client. In fact, the Avamar server appears as NW storage 
node in the hierarchy.
    So it does not make sense.

2. The metadata is very small compared to the 'true' save set size. So what do 
you want to (double) boost?

3. Do not forget that you have to backup the metadata as it is representing the 
key entry to your Avamar backups. Keep it simple and use an AFTD.
