Without reading each comment i think you might have stepped into a tiny trap:

  - When recycling/relabeling the media NW will use the same label.
  - When labeling the media, you can assign any other label (as long as you do 
not use the barcode).

De facto, the result is the same - existing labels will be overwritten making 
existing data inaccessible. 
The only difference is the label itself.
