I would also recommend a *very* thorough read through the compatibility
matrix for NW 8.x.  Given that you're coming from 7.2 (and up) and have a
wide variety of O/S and hardware, it's quite possible that a particular
client OS or application version that you require has been desupported
along the way.

Pay close attention to the release notes as recommended by Stan.  Direct
upgrades to 8.x are only supported from 7.6.x versions of NetWorker.  You
will have to perform one or more interim upgrades on the older versions to
get them ready to go to 8.x.

The alternative would be to stand up a new instance and recreate
everything from scratch.  Depending on the sizes of your various
environments and the effort required to migrate vs. recreate, this may or
may not be an option for you to consider.

The "NetWorker Installation Guide" has good detail on the various upgrade
requirements.
