You are absolutely right - a standardized HW just work without any
hard-/software that supports this standard. "Supported" means that it has been
'tested and approved'. It does not mean that other solutions will not work.
BTW - i have heard that you can ask EMC to get your environment supported - no
idea about terms, condition and price.
If supported, there are other alternatives like snapshots backups. However,
this depends on your environment. Please see the NetWorker portfolio or ask EMC
for details.
