[Networker] Networker using only one volume/device at the time, why?
2010-11-25 11:51:10
We are using NetWorker version 7.4.4.Build.634, it is running on Solaris 9, has
one adv_file device with mounted volume from Default pool and we have one
storage node with 2 adv_file devices with mounted volumes from Default pool.
Lately I noticed Networker is dragging its feet and backup continues into
working hours so I investigated a bit and concluded that Networker is not using
all (adv_file) devices/volumes from Default pool. For example, if it starts
backup from some group it picks volume/device from Default pool. In the
meantime, another group starts which requests volume/device from Default pool.
In Default pool we have three volumes/devices available, but instead picking
one of them Networker repeatedly generates infos/alerts:
backup-sun nsrd media info: Suggest manually labeling a new writable volume
for pool 'Default'
backup-sun nsrd media request critical: Waiting for 1 writable volumes to
backup pool 'Default' disk or tape on backup-sun
backup-sun nsrd media critical event: Waiting for 1 writable volumes to
backup pool 'Default' disk(s) or tape(s) on backup-sun
backup-sun nsrd media request critical: Waiting for 2 writable volumes to
backup pool 'Default' disk or tape on backup-sun
backup-sun nsrd media event cleared: Waiting for 1 writable volumes to
backup pool 'Default' disk(s) or tape(s) on backup-sun
backup-sun nsrd media critical event: Waiting for 2 writable volumes to
backup pool 'Default' disk(s) or tape(s) on backup-sun
I think Networker should, after reaching target session for one device in the
pool, pick next available device in the pool and so on. But it doesn't.
Is there a way to check and correct this?
