It did default to sdl320, and I decided to live with it. :-)

More: if you scan a SDLT320 tape in a SDLT600 (both of which I have) 
without specifying "-t sdlt320", then you must *always* use the SDLT600 
drive to read that tape, as Networker thinks the tape type is SDLT600. If 
you specify "-t sdlt320", then you can use that tape in either drive; 
otherwise you are limited to one drive, which may be in use (yes, that's 
the voice of personal experience speaking. :-), and you then have to wait 
for the operation in the SDLT600 drive to finish).

None of these will be any write operations, only scanning and recovering.
