To do a file level backup (if you don't use vcb) you'll have to have a client
installed on the vm, somebody please let me know if I'm wrong.. :) If you're
using 7.6 you can do an image level backup and do an image level restore or a
file level restore (windows only on the file level restore from an image
backup).

Also with 7.6 if you have vmware converter version 3 (version 4 not supported)
you can do a "one step" vm recovery, which is really nice if you have to
restore a full image.. Geez.. I sound like a salesman.. :)

Thanks for the info.

I thought 'installing virtual edition client license' (without VCB) will allow
both file level & image level backups. ?
