We too have had great success with datadomain and vtl.  They have been great 
with after sale support and really very few problems other than the occasional 
disk fail which is to be expected.  Looking forward to additional feedback.

I don't know the market for dedup devices although I have worked with DD
lately and rather like them.

If you want cheap dedup options, there is lessfs on Linux and dedup
within ZFS. No idea how well these work.
