This is a "classic" problem. If the client's index was backed up by a different named server then the new server has to take ownership of those indexes. Otherwise, they belong to the older (other) server or client, so the new server does not consider those to be its own indexes and will refuse to recover them. You might as well be talking to a brick wall.

You might be able to play tricks with DNS, but you can do a renaming process - explained somewhere in the documentation - wherein the old server's media database entries become owned by the new server? But to do that, you have to change the old client's (old server's) client-id to match the new server? But you can't edit that field except at create time, so you have to delete the client resource, and then re-create it, but this time specify the real client-id that you want to use before you hit 'apply'? Sheesh! What a nightmare. So confusing. Never was clear on the steps, however, and what if I want to go back later?

It would be a lot easier if they just had a command to do this. Another request to have added to future releases of the product but one that should have been added years ago ... sigh ...

I see the index on tape:

# mminfo -q volume=W01074 -v | grep 0057

W01074 susvr0210 11/08/04 07:44:42 AM 33 GB 781150776 cr
full index:susvr0057

And I have that volume mounted in a drive.

But I can't get the index back:

# nsrck -L7 -t '11/08/04' susvr0057

nsrck: checking index for 'susvr0057'

nsrck: The file index for client 'susvr0057' will be recovered.

nsrck: The index recovery for 'susvr0057' failed.

nsrck: File index error: can't find index backups for 'susvr0057' on
server 'susvr0210.gcsd.harris.com'

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Jerry
