With a gpo is a good way but there are numerous msi deploying option

Batch files or sms or landesk are a couple of other options

I'm not a windows guy particularly, what do you regards as 'normal' tools ?

I'm presuming the 'tool/s' perform a push installation using a silent install 
with a domain account or such like ?

Are you referring to a GPO or another appication ?
