Is there a workaround so the update does not need such a long downtime? is
it ok to run the nsrck -L6 after the update? or is it ok the have some
backup / restores done durint the nsrck -L6 ?

I would run it before, but not be terribly concerned if there's other
stuff going on.  It's great if the environment is quiet while it's running,
but if you can't manage that, then don't worry about it.
