LTO4 tape devices can read LTO2 without problem but not LTO1.  This may
cause problems because in the beginning, LTO1 labels where often used on
LTO2 tapes.  The software in the tape library often goes not farther than
the barcode to identify a tape.

Has anyone used an LTO-4 tape drive to read an LTO-2 tape ??

We're getting ready to upgrade our tape technology, and have been told that
this is possible. I've read it in the literature, but has anyone actually
done this so we can be sure we can restore data from our LTO-2 tapes once we
have an LTO-4 library in place.... 
I would feel better if I could verify this is possible....
