Hello,

x Eric: Yes, I didn't find any LTO2/LTO4 SCSI drive for connecting to our old server. I'll ask to other schools to see if they have one.

x Andreas: I've think about the temporary storage node but I wouldn't like to reconfigure the old server to a new name/ip to be able to work in conjunction with our old new server (the migration was performed to a new hardware but maintaining the name/ip). If I reconfigure and something fails I'll lost the only possibility of recovering things from these old tapes.

Hirtel Marcel pointed to me to use an USB drive of 1TB. I'll look for one for creating a "disk device" for cloning the tapes, something like this:

OLD Server
----------
- Put 1TB USB drive
- Create a device disk on it (i.e. D:\tapedisk)
- Label and mount of "Default Clone" pool
- Clone the 5 tapes from GUI to the "Default Clone" pool (is it possible or must I script?)
- Unmount the disk tape
- Eject 1TB USB drive

NEW Server
----------
- Put 1TB USB drive
- Rename D:\tapedisk to D:\tapedisk.old
- Create a device disk on it (i.e. D:\tapedisk)
- Delete D:\tapedisk and rename D:\tapedisk.old to D:\tapedisk
- Scanner -pv -m D:\tapedisk (or must use -i?)
- Clone this "tape" to which pool? "Default Clone"? (Can I send the data to one of my non-clone pools?)

As I don't have experience with the cloning process I'm somewhat lost about the final step to recover the data in the new server (from "Default Clone" to what).

I hope some one can clarify this to me.

Thank you very much.

Hi,

Just to be sure : you tried without success to find a scsi tape drive at
least lto2 that you can borrow to put on your old server than put the tapes
on the lto4 of your new server ?

Kind regards

Hi again,

Sorry, I've missed some informatio:

- Old server: Windows 2003 x86, Legato 7.4.4, SDLT320 SCSI
- New server: Windows 2008 x64, Legato 7.4.4, LTO4 FC

Thanks.

Hello,

Some time ago we upgraded our old Legato server (with SDLT320) to a new machine (with LTO4) using the "official" mmrecover method.

We used a disk device for backup/recover the bootstrap as the new server didn't have SCSI connections for the SDL320 drives.

Now, we want to reuse our old server but we have a backup (will expire in February, 2012) we want to preserve, so we need to copy the data from the SDL320 tapes to LTO4 tapes while maitaining the expiration date of this data.

As we can't connect the SDLT320 tapes to the new server, how can we copy this data to LTO4 tapes? (We can't use disk device because we don't have enough space in the old server nor in the new server to hold 5 x 160GB of data).

Any idea would be very appreciated.

Thank you very much.
