I've been working with vcb since 7.4.3 came out and my experience has
been pretty good. Using 7.6 now I have done the one step recovery
several times and it has worked successfully, I have also done a single
file recovery and it works just as well.

In theory it can do Single File Recovery and incremental backups. When
this works it is every bit as good as traditional client backups.

In practice there are lots of cases where SFR is not possible, such as
the mysterious "non-ascii filenames". This comes out as a warning in a
supposedly successful backup, whereas IMHO if you expect a file-level
recovery and this is not possible it should be an error.

VCB will be dead soon anyway, replaced by something better. I would
question whether it is worth investing any effort in this at this time.

My recent experience of VCB is 7.6 is not particularly good and I am not

impressed.
