I'm using vcenter to back the vm's up. We gave the vcb backup account
permissions at the top level of the tree through esx.

Hi Chester -

I've never heard or seen of this issue unless there was an *actual* snap
existing somewhere, unless it has something to do with the "Moref" error
part - here's some info I found about the "Moref" (version 3.5 though) -

Identifying a Virtual Machine By its MoRef
Internally, VirtualCenter and ESX refer to objects by Managed Object
References (MoRef, for short). In general, it is not recommended to use
MoRefs to identify virtual machines.

The only exception to this rule is when backing up virtual machines from
a standalone ESX host. In this case, the MoRef of the virtual machine
will be identical to the path to its .vmx configuration file.

... maybe that helps, but I don't' know how you are backing up your
systems (standalone vs vcenter). perhaps the vcbbkup user does not have
read perms on the datastore your vm lives on so it can't find the vmx
file? ....weird stuff either way, let us know how you make out...

Cheers,
jamie
