We're testing our new backup environment which is a primary VTL replicated to a
secondary VTL. As part of the testing, we want to walk through a DR scenario
where the primary VTL is unavailable. Unfortunately, we only have the
production NetWorker server for this testing. Here's what I think we need to
do:
1. Remove primary VTL from environment (isolate so that this system isn't
touched during the test)
2. Make the secondary VTL the primary (we're reviewing our procedure for this
with the VTL vendor)
3. Test restoring data from existing VTL tapes
4. Test backing up data to blank VTL tape
5. Test restoring newly backed up data
6. Relabel test tape so that is blank (that is, get NetWorker back to original
state)
7. Disconnect VTL (original secondary) and restore the original configuration
8. Reconnect original primary VTL to NetWorker server
9. Finish rebuilding secondary VTL as necessary
Is this correct? Are there any other steps that need to be done? I'm
particularly concerned with how the NetWorker server will react to swapping the
VTLs.
