My NW is 7.5.2.

We resolved it by deleting the source path. :-) Turns out some script
"stuttered", and created a path that was 3200 characters long. A program
can read or manipulate that, but none of the Windows user tools (which are
limited to the 256 character path, including Windows explorer and the
command shell delete and "remove directory" commands). So we did something
slightly clever - my guys used the robocopy utility, and it's "mirror"
function to mirror a blank directory to the start of the bad directory
structure. That then deleted all the bad directory structure underneath
that point. Problem solved. :-)
