Normal behaviour for me.
I'm happy to report that using the '-t' option resolves the problem. It
doesn't matter that all the known NSR devices are LTO-4. As long as you
use '-t' to tell scanner that it's, say, an 'LTO Ultrium-3', that's what
mminfo will report I ran it as:
scanner -t 'LTO-Ultrium-3' -f mediafile -r mediarec -S ssid device >
/dev/null
This means that I'll have to remove the previous scanned volume and
rescan it using the '-t' option this time.
George
I figured that was probably the case since the only NSR devices it knows
about are the LTO-4s. I was hoping I could remove it (nsrmm -d) and then
re-scan with '-m -t LTO Ultrium-3'.
If you want to have it known as a LTO-3 tape, you will have
to delete the tape record from mediadb (remove volume)
and retry scanner -m operation on a LTO-3 Type tape device.
Seems a shame that they force you to have to do that. What if it came
from another, older server, and you no longer had one of those older
drive types around anymore. It could be the case, too, that you wouldn't
want to use a DR recover to recover that older database, so now, it's
gonna think it's, say, an LTO-4, which means that any reports or queries
you run using '-type' may not be accurate for these affected tapes.

Subject: [Networker] mminfo reports wrong media type?
Scanned some save sets from an LTO-3 tape on an LTO-4 drive using '-m'
option, not '-i'. Scan identified it as an LTO Ultrium-4 tape, but
everything scanned fine. However, mminfo reports the type as 'Ultrium
LTO-4'? mminfo does report all the information correctly, though, e.g.
name, client, savetime, ssid, etc. I can mount the tape and recover the data
just fine. How can I get mminfo to report it as an LTO-3?
I tried rerunning the scan as:
scanner -s server -t 'LTO Ultrium-3' device
This time scanner reported is an LTO Ultrium-3, but mminfo still
reports the
volume as an LTO-4.
Thanks.
