[Networker] SV: [Networker] Linux vs Windows

You will get slightly more performence from Linux writing against disk, but not
so much it makes a certain diffence and slightly better ip performence against
other linux and unix systems if u configure it right. Windows might get a bit
more performance against windows clients and are a bit more stable in my view.
I use might as its alot to do with what optimzation that is done. Different
filesystems makes a difference as well and could change the map compleatly.
Can say that you REALLY need to know how to optimize linux or do some research
to get it to run smooth while windows dont need as much as its little to do
that will improve performance. So I would say if majority clients are windows
there might be a benefit other than that it's a question of what they know best
and would be best at optimizing and supporting.

Hi Freddy,
The best benefit I can always think when people ask this question is how OS
itself.
There is no value in running e.g. Linux, if you have little or no idea how it
should be managed.
So: if your customer is really a Windows guy/gal, the benefit is in
understanding the platform - definitely a plus when the time has come to do a
DR.....
Good luck,
Alex

Hi,
Was hoping somebody could shed some light. I have a client who wants to move
his Networker 7.5.1 server from a Linux platform to a Windows platform and he
is asking me to tell him what the benefits are.
He is currently running on Red Hat x86 (I assume RHEL 4) and wants to move to
Win 2008 R2 x64 and Networker 7.6. I have always run Networker server on a
Windows platform so I cannot really comment on the benefits going from Linux to
Windows.
Any comments would be appreciated
